The Staffordshire Safer Roads Partnership (SSRP) has announced seven routes across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent to be the focus of their annual ‘Ride it Right’ campaign for 2026, designed to reduce motorbike casualties.
The routes, which are updated each year, have been identified by the SSRP as the highest risk based on the analysis of motorcycle collisions.
Recent analysis by the SSRP has shown that the ‘Ride it Right’ routes have seen a 36% reduction in motorcycle casualties on the stretches of road where the distinctive yellow signs have been sited, since we introduced the scheme in 2006. This outweighs the reduction on other roads in the county.
We promote the scheme to bikers and car drivers alike, but all road users have a responsibility to think safer when they see the signs to continue to support a reduction in motorcycle casualties.
2024 saw a new approach to the analysis which decides the routes we use. All of Staffordshire’s roads were analysed based on ‘number of collisions per kilometre’ and a few other detailed measures, this has thrown up some radical routes, but as always, we are focusing on the areas that we need to target to reduce motorcycle casualties.
If you’re out and about and come across these signs, please take extra care on these routes and keep yourself safe.
The routes identified for 2026 are:
- A5 Spread Eagle Gailey to Wall Island
- A34 Talke Pits to Trent Vale (Stone Road at A500)
- A50 Stoke-on-Trent Lichfield Street (Potteries Museum roundabout) to A5007 roundabout
- A51 Rugeley to Bowling Green Lichfield
- A52 Station Road/Leek Road Stoke (6th form college) to A52 Ash Bank Road
- A5272 Chell to Weston Coyney
- A53 Endon to Flash
